Editorial Policy: How We Research and Review Our Guides
This page explains how Disposal Fix Hub content is researched, written, reviewed, and corrected — so you can judge whether a guide is worth following before you pick up a wrench.
Scope and standards
We publish troubleshooting, maintenance, and buying guidance for residential garbage disposals sold in the United States, with a focus on InSinkErator Badger and Evolution models and Waste King Legend units. Every guide has to answer three questions: what is happening, what to do next, and when to stop.
We do not publish error-code lists for appliances we cannot verify, model-specific repair procedures we cannot source, or any content whose only purpose is to rank for a keyword. If we cannot support a claim, it does not go on the page.
Where the information comes from
- Manufacturer documentation. Owner's manuals, installation guides, and warranty terms for the model families we cover. These are the primary source for reset button locations, hex socket sizes, mounting systems, and electrical requirements.
- Published service procedures. Standard plumbing practice for flange sealing, trap cleaning, drain snaking, and disposal removal and replacement.
- Reader questions and recurring symptoms. These help us choose which guides to write and which confusing details to explain. They are not treated as proof of failure rates, repair costs, or product reliability.
- Editorial judgment. Where sources disagree, we pick the conservative option and say so. Where a job is beyond a homeowner, we state the boundary rather than implying confidence.
How each page is reviewed
-
Draft against the manual
The writer maps the symptom to the relevant service procedure, identifies where model instructions differ, and organizes the guide around the decisions a reader actually needs to make. The structure follows the repair rather than a fixed word count or keyword formula.
-
Safety edit
A second pass checks three things on every page: power is cut before any physical work, no instruction implies a hand goes into the grind chamber, and the "call a plumber" boundary is explicit rather than vague.
-
Accuracy and originality edit
Claims are checked against the manual or marked as general practice. Pages are compared against the rest of the site so the same steps are not republished with new wording to fill space.
-
Publication and review date
Each page shows the date it was last reviewed. Pages covering models that change frequently are re-checked when a new model family replaces an old one.
On drafting tools
We use software, including drafting and checking tools, to help produce and organize content. A human editor is responsible for every published page, and no page is published unedited. We mention this because readers deserve to know how content is made, and because "written by a person" is a claim we should only make when it is true.
Independence and affiliate links
Some pages contain Amazon affiliate links. If you buy through one, we earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Affiliate relationships never determine which fix we recommend or the order we put the steps in — the repair advice works whether you buy anything or not. Products are suggested only where a specific part is genuinely the fix. The full statement is on the affiliate disclosure page.
Corrections and updates
Report an error with the page URL to hello@disposalfixhub.com. We verify against the source, correct the page, and update the review date. If a correction changes the recommended procedure, we note it in the page rather than silently editing.
